Nakia Best Earns Scholarships from Jonas, Johnson & Johnson

Nakia Best

Nakia Best, who taught undergraduate courses at the SON for the past four years and begins the School’s PhD program this fall, was selected as the School’s first Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholar. Best, MSN, BSN, will be provided with financial assistance, leadership development and mentoring support as she pursues her PhD in Nursing. The Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholar program seeks to increase the number of advanced practice nurses available for roles as faculty, primary care providers, and health care leaders by supporting both research-focused and practice-focused doctoral nursing students.

Best was also selected as one of five new Minority Nurse Faculty Scholars by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing and the Johnson & Johnson Campaign for Nursing’s Future. The program aims to address the faculty shortage and enhance diversity among nurse educators by providing financial support, mentoring and leadership development to graduate students from minority backgrounds who aspire to teach in our nation’s schools of nursing.
