Two SON Faculty Receive UNC Junior Faculty Development Awards

SON Assistant Professors Anna Beeber and Jia-Rong Wu received Junior Faculty Development Awards.

Congratulations to Dr. Anna Beeber and Dr. Jia-Rong Wu on receiving UNC Junior Faculty Development Awards.

Anna Beeber, PhD, RN, Assistant Professor

With this grant Dr. Beeber will explore services and staffing in assisted living settings and their relationship to resident outcomes.

The aims of this project are to:
1) use a preliminary cluster analysis of staffing and services in assisted living settings to examine if the configuration of RN/LPN staffing and service availability stays the same over time
2) examine the relationship between staffing and service configurations and assisted living resident outcomes including falls, emergency department use, hospitalization, transfer to nursing homes, and cost
3) examine the administrative, economic, and other considerations that influence staffing and service provision
4) use the findings to develop best practice recommendations for staffing and services that are tailored to variation in assisted living settings and resident needs

Jia-Rong Wu, PhD, RN Assistant Professor

Dr. Wu will explore the precipitating factors of hospitalization for heart failure exacerbation, including non-adherence to medical recommendations. She also will identify demographic, psychosocial and clinical predictors of longer hospital length of stay.

The findings from the study will provide:
1) evidence to identify patients with heart failure who are at increased risk for hospitalization and a longer length of stay
2) direction to develop and pilot test effective interventions to improve adherence
3) preliminary findings to write an NIH K23 grant
