Congratulations to SON Faculty Member Beth Lamanna
Beth Lamanna, RN, Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Assistant Professor in the UNC Chapel Hill School of Nursing received the 2011 GlaxoSmithKline Child Health Recognition Award for work she did with SON students to assess and evaluate barriers to blood lead screening in Chatham County, North Carolina.
With the results, Ms. Lamanna and the students proposed new policies to improve testing rates and lower the levels of lead exposure. These policies have now been adopted by the county commissioners. In Beth Lamanna’s name, a $1,000 scholarship has been given to the NC Public Health Association.
