Asian Scholars Writing for Publication Workshops

Asian scholars in health professions can learn more about writing for publication in Chapel Hill, NC or in Tokyo, Japan through workshops offered by the UNC Chapel Hill School of Nursing Center for Lifelong Learning.

May 9 Workshop in Chapel Hill
Do you want to write for publication, but don’t know where to start or how to find the time? Writing for publication is difficult for most faculty and practitioners, and this program will help by giving you the tools to publish scholarly manuscripts. The process of writing and publishing will be presented along with keys to productivity to assist you in writing for publication. This May 9 workshop is for all health professionals and  is focused on people whose native languages are from Asia.

♦   Introduction to types of articles including theoretical articles, clinical articles, education articles, review articles,  research reports
♦   Revising and editing your manuscript including getting published, how to find a journal, what it takes to get published
♦   The process of writing
♦   Shaping an article for publication
♦   Keys to productivity
♦   The fine points of writing
♦   The process of publishing

Dr. Yeo is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. She received her BSN from St. Luke’s College of Nursing. She received both her masters and PhD from the University of Tokyo. For over 30 years, she has published in highly competitive pere reviewed journals such as Birth, Nursing Research, & RINAH, etc.

Elizabeth M. Tornquist, MA, FAAN
For over 30 years, Elizabeth Tornquist has taught scientific writing to nurses, physicians, and public health professionals. She continues to provide editorial consultation and assistance on technical and scientific writing to nurses, physicians and health care professionals around the country, as well as internationally.

July 19-22 Workshop in Tokyo, Japan:
This institute is designed to help Asian scholars in the health professions develop articles that excite and in-spire readers and can be published in English journals. By the end of this program, participants will be able to:
♦   Learn ways to make time for writing
♦   Describe a process of writing
♦   Discuss the publication process
♦   Gain information to help scholars with English as a second language write for English journals
♦   Discuss effective development of research programs
♦   Conduct and write an integrative review of the literature
♦   Discuss ways to build a successful research career

Participants are encouraged to come with ideas about manuscripts and time will be given for writing and/or individual assistance/editing by Dr. Yeo. Included in the registration fee is the offer by Ms. Tornquist to edit one manuscript per participant before July 18, 2012. This offer is only valid within one year of the end of the institute.
