ABSN student Anneka Huegerich was chosen as the recipient of the 2009 Katherine Wilson Scholarship.
As a single mother of three young daughters, ages 6, 4 and 14 months, Huegerich is pursuing a goal of becoming a nurse educator to share her passion, experiences and education with future nurses.
In addition to working as a nurse, Huegerich volunteers with the La Leche League to educate women and families about breastfeeding.
The Katherine Wilson Scholarship Fund is a lasting tribute to Katherine Wilson, BSN ’04, who overcame great obstacles to earn her nursing degree before losing a tragic five-year battle with cancer at age 28. Based upon the wishes of Katherine and her family, the scholarship is awarded to a student (or students) who exemplifies meritorious academic achievement, who desires to pursue a nursing career in end-of-life issues or oncology and who has overcome a significant obstacle in his or her life.
