School of Nursing’s Longest-Running Employee Retires
Karen Hearne, executive assistant to the dean, retired on Sept. 30 after 30 years of service to the School of Nursing. Throughout her tenure at the School, Hearne worked with four deans – Laurel Archer Copp, Cindy Freund, Linda Cronenwett and Kristen Swanson.

Staff member Karen Hearne (second from left) sits with three of the four deans with whom she worked before retiring on Sept. 30.
For the past several years, Hearne has become known as “the person who has all the answers” about SON history and tradition. The School hosted a retirement party for her on Sept. 17 where she was presented with a memory book full of pictures and letters from colleagues, as well as a monetary gift, collected from faculty and staff donations, that can be used toward the purchase of a horseback riding saddle.
SON faculty, staff and students wish Hearne a happy and fulfilling retirement. We will miss her tremendously.
